APRS – Advanced Petroleum Recovery Systems

APRS is a very new system patented by IonTEK in the United States. It uses the hydrodynamic cavitation principle and it can be used in many applications in the oil industry, with two important benefits: cost reduction and improvement in operation time.

Improvement of Heavy crudes viscosity

One of the main problems in heavy crudes management is the difficulty to pump them through conventional pipelines due to their high viscosity. By circulating these type of petroleum through one or several APRS® Cavitation Reactors and the addition of the Bluemax® catalyst, a substantial viscosity improvement is attained, in such a way that the quantity of diluent (nafta, gas, light crude, etc.) required is notably decreased, generating an important economic differentiator in production costs.


Oily sludge recovery

The storage of crude for long periods of time generates higher density sediments that little by little become solidified to the point of converting into thicker sludge (even solid) which occupy a considerable volume and decrease operating tank capacity.

In a process that consists in adding the Bluemax® catalyst, the DI2® composit and re-circulating liquid crude from the tank through the APRS® Cavitation Reactor, sediment is converted back into good quality crude, up to the point of almost total recovery, in a fraction of the time required with conventional mechanical mixers and chemical diluents methods.


Wells stimulation

Making the water injected into the wells flow through the APRS Cavitation Reactor requires half the traditional energy and a noticeable improvement (up to 15%) is obtained in the amount of hydrocarbon extracted. At the same time, this facilitates the mix separation process.


Water Treatment

When the water in the well has been treated through the Cavitation Reactor, the separation process of the mix going out is simplified and the resulting water is cleaner, with a direct impact on its improved disposition for environmental disposal.

In addition to this, the separated petroleum is virtually water free and in many cases its API number increases by 1 or 2 points.


Biomass and Bio-oil plants

Starting with carbon dioxide capture, a revolutionary system reduces the time for biomass creation and fossilization processes (which took millions of years for it to become a hydrocarbon) to a few days. Using microalgae as raw material, Bio Fuel Systems (Spain) has developed a process based on CO2 capture and accelerated conversion, using elements such as solar energy, photosynthesis and electromagnetic fields; this controlled synthesis process leads to obtaining an artificial petroleum similar to fossil fuel. The resultant crude is a clean petroleum, without sulfide, heavy metals, and is a great CO2 reducer.
